i moved to a new studio… it’s fun, it’s big, it’s spacious and the plan is that it will get me working on bigger and cooler projects. in the meanwhile, we thought it would be a good idea to let people know I’ll be operating from a new location and why not open a few beers, have some snacks and take some pictures…. as long as everything is color coordinated.

like i wrote in Part One of Anat and Lamed’s wedding, their celebration was split into three events. The second event was really cool, because they wanted to avoid the embarrassment of dealing with romantic couple photos, but still wanted to have them. The solution was to have a big picnic with friends, babies and pets, and this is what we got.
selling clothes is so much more than selling and clothes when you care about what you sell and the people you sell it to. JinG is a clothing boutique, but it’s more. when they organize a yard sale it feels like the clothing just happens to be there. the real activity is on the ramp, around the grill or by the big fridge filled with beers.
a bunch of us come with our babies and toddlers, some are already big enough to ride the mini ramp. local skater kids come to skate, probably looking at us thinking “what’s up with these geezers and their kids, didn’t they used to skate also? Im never gonna be that guy” while we’re looking at them as live entertainment, in amazement of how much the skate scene has grown, how good the kids are and, a little bit like the geezers we are, sitting on the side, drinking beer, and enjoying the gladiator style physical entertainment.
call it what you will, we had a good time, everyone had a good time, we’re looking forward to many more gatherings like this in the future. my wife even asked me if i could imagine our little girl grow up to be one of these teenage skater chicks that comes to hang out in events and places like this, and of course i truly think it’s the best place i’d want my girl to be, but it got me worried about so many other things =) #beingadad
last night TEDER.FM hosted the second annual tel aviv bike fest, a few stands to fix and paint your bike, some stuff to buy, lots of people with bike, beer, music and even the MACH2 alleycat race.
not much to say, but i really wanted to post these photos, because they reminded me of the bike events we had in china.
cheers, lehaim and gambei!
there’s a great little place just around the corner from our apartment. during the day you can get steamed buns there, but they got nothing on the late night BBQ.
they only start the fire and to organize everything at 9pm. it looks really sketchy… as a street BBQ could be… but it is so delicious, like street food should be.
it took us a while to open up to it, and try some, then come back again and try something else. we started with squid and beans, mushrooms were never really a stretch, the eggplant was so surprising, because they roast it whole, just like my mother would, and make a “salad” right there on the grill, while it’s still in the shell, it looks great and tastes even better. but the dish that was the biggest leap was the oysters, something about how the clean them on the curb never sat right with yael, but we had to try them, and they are amazing, no other way to put it.
so all summer we’ve been hopping over there, grabbing a quick snack on our way home, and seeing a lot of locals doing the same, while some stay there, sitting with friends and beer, and i said that sitting like this is the one thing i want to do before the summer is over. last night, we sat there with five more friends, ordered a lot of goodies and a twelve-pack of beers and sat there for maybe two hours. it brought a little tear to my eye.
i was informed last week of a tel aviv nightlife photo event that took place a couple night ago. I checked the facebook page for the event and it said that a certain photogrpher has been taking amazing pictures of the tel aviv nightlife and they assume he’s not the only one, encouraging people to send in pictures of tel aviv nightlife… and i have heaps of those, so i chose a few and sent them in. one of my pictures advanced to the finals, not my favorite one of the bunch, but it didn’t matter, most pictures weren’t even depicting nightlife, most of them were pictures (some nicer than others) that by chance were taken at night. The exhibit itself didn’t show nightlife pictures either, it was uber photoshopped portraits of israeli celebrities that may or may not contribute to the israel nightlife scene.
here’s what i sent in and some more, and yeah, for fun, i also added some pictures that happened to be taken in the dark, if Im already posting:
taken outside and after a party at shor3… a promising venue that didn’t deliver all that it promised. but the flavor remained, so maybe that makes it better than the rest.
this picture was taken for layla (night) magazine for an article about drinking in the streets… they didn’t like it, and decided to post a picture of some guy drinking corona leaning on a mural, they explained that it was street art.
cohen@mushon, live at the block, not long before it closed.
yom kipur on rothschild blvd.
zebra days roof parties, from sundown to sunup, the best thing to do on a saturday night… hopefully you don’t have to work the next day.
peled has become a perfoming monster… he was amazing before i even met him, but he kept on getting better. only a few can.
one day i got a call from the snowboarding crew i was riding with and taking pictures for that they want to check something out… can we get ice from the fish market and hit a rail in tel aviv… the answer is yes, if you are pancho.
quami and the halvot opened for linkin park in the park… they put on a kickass show, and i thought i’d stay to the see linkin park, but the production crew didn’t make me feel welcome at all, and the music didn’t make it better.
no one understands what goga says when he’s on the mic… so i guess that no one knows why he’s so pissed off.
got no shame used to jump a lot in concerts. after their shows i’d declare the winner of the non-existent jump contest, in this case, shover won!
this guy was annoying, and he rightfully got punched in the chest, he wasn’t too happy about it, tho.
this is one of my favorite all time live show pictures. and i think it never gets the credit it deserves. at this soon in here show i was in the crowd, gal was on stage, i noticed he’s gonna jump and we traded places, so i took this picture of him from the stage while he’s crowd-surfing and still playing.
this is the picture that was chosen for the tel aviv calling contest. it’s pretty late or pretty early at the barzilay club, while the club is taking it’s last breaths. took some years and a lot of parties to get all that gum there.
